Being a freelancer means that I have no staff to pay and no office to rent. I am not VAT registered thus the savings can be passed to you.
When choosing a web designer, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you check the following :
- Does your designer provide detailed statistics on your site that you can view at any time to see:
Where your traffic is coming from.
Search words that people are using in search engines to find your site.
Number of visits and UNIQUE visits to your site per day, week and month.
Which country the traffic is coming from.
- Can your web designer host your site on a fast, reliable UK based server giving you a large number of email accounts, webmail and your own web control panel ?
- Can you email ANY of your web designer's clients at random and ask for a reference?
A website can be designed using a content management system which gives the end user the ability to update the content themselves using a web browser. These style of sites also allow many different features such as event lists, news style layouts, locked down client content and much, much more. These style of sites are 'modular' by design which allows them to be incredibly flexible and easy to maintain/upgrade in the future. Browse through my portfolio to give you an idea of some of the features from a content management system.
Yes. In some cases, a site will simply be reflection of the company's brochure material and may only require occasional, very minor modifications. Any text or image modifications can be carried out by Logic Red.
This style of site is called an e-commerce site. Things to consider are :
- The number of items you wish to sell
- Are the items 'physical' items or 'downloadable' items (such as reports etc)
- How payment will be taken on the site. If you are a larger company with a credit card machine, then you can take offline payments from the site. If not, you can use a smaller online payment gateway such as Paypal.

This depends on many different things. How much content you have, the availability of any images you wish to use, and finally, the complexity of the site. As a rule of thumb, a small content managed site could be built within a week of receiving ALL of the content.
Once designed, your website will need somewhere to live on the internet. This takes the form of a web server based in the UK. The cost of hosting your website is on a yearly basis. You will also require a domain name to point to your website (yourcompanyname.co.uk for example).
